BOPARAI FARMS - RISING THROUGH AGRICULTURE

I am Baljinder Singh from Sidhwan Bet, Ludhiana, Punjab. I am married and in my family there are 3 members including me, my wife and a son. I have studied till 10th class and after that I started working in agricultural field.

I am involved in agriculture since 1985. I have 5 acres of land and mainly we grow wheat, chickpea, clover, pearl millet, maize and oats crops. My son also helps me in agriculture and we have a beautiful farm. Besides this we have 2 milking cows of jersey breed and we also grow fodder for them in our fields. We use some of their milk for household use and sell 13-14 liters milk in market. In, agriculture main problem we face is marketing. We need a perfect platform so that we can sell our products easily.

In future I want to move towards crop diversification and I also want to opt one other agricultural occupation among Fisheries, Pig Farming and Bee-keeping because I feel that this is necessary for a farmer to himself involve in more than one agricultural practice if he wants to earn well.

My message for farmers is that we have to work smart if we want to take agriculture to a higher level. Use modern techniques to reduce wastage of time and cost. Adopt organic farming so that we can save our health and our future generations because use of pesticides is increasing and it directly affects our health and soil fertility and it also makes our water and air polluted.
